“POSTCARDS

19 piano pieces,
written for 19 friends.

In 2020, I challenged myself to write a simple methods book, for piano and accompanying instruments.

As it turns out, I had no idea how to write for flute or clarinet at the time — go figure.

One theme I had developed was too good to let go. Seeing a friend who had developed a pen-pal system during the pandemic, I came up with the idea to write short pieces, and mail the hand-written sheet music to friends. “Anybody want an original song mailed to them?”, I posted to social media. I had a dozen requests in less than an hour.

This was the basis for my “Postcards” project. At the time, I hadn’t composed much, and it was an amazing challenge. Since releasing the album in 2020, it has had more than 100,000 streams, and 10,000 unique listeners, across more than 50 countries. Sales for the album helped pay for much of the recording equipment I still use today.

Thank you to those who have supported the album since its release, and thank you to my friends who helped inspire the project.
